Sports Acrobatics

Acrobatics history reveals that the sport is divided into two chronicles. There is the western and eastern history. The acrobatic pictures from the western history depict singing of song, juggling and tight-rope walking. Acrobatics in those times are observed as a form of religious ritual. On the other hand, the eastern history depicts acrobatic as a performing arts. It is an element manifested during harvest festivals.

Today, sports acrobatics has come a long way. It aims to promote one’s sense of balance, suppleness, dexterity and potency. Comradeship among performers is also developed with this type of sport. Acrobatics is the common term for sports acrobatics. There are times that it is also termed as acrobatic gymnastics. Some of the known terms associated with the said sport are Acro-gymnastics, Acro Gymnastics, or Acrogymnastics. It was in the early 30s that acrobatics was recognized as a sport. Four decades later, the sport made its way to world competitions and garnered the first world championship award.

Individuals who have keen interest in the sports acrobatic can choose to join with the five categories. Originally, there were seven categories. However, it was kept to only five and tumbling events have been disregarded by most competitions. Out of these categories, there are sorting intended for women only, for men only and for both sexes.

Women have the chance to choose and join three out of the five categories. One on the base and one on top are involved in Women’s Pairs. Another option where women can join is the Mixed Pairs. The said category involves a man and a woman. Alternatively, a woman acrobat or gymnast can also join the Women’s Trios. Apart from the top and base performer, there is a middle performer. Commonly, the middle performer does acrobatic flips.

Men also have options on what specific categories to participate in. There is also Men’s Pair. He can also join as a partner in the Mixed Pairs. On the other hand, there is Men’s Fours opposite to the Women’s Trios. Instead of having only one middle man, there are two middle performers. The middle performers usually assist on acrobatics lift routines.

The success of sports acrobatics is not solely dependent on acrobatic lifts and flips. There are instances that performers come up with acrobatic tricks. Music is also being used to complement routines. This is being done as a way to further enhance performances. Above-all, it should not be forgotten that acrobatic supplies are also a factor which will help improve one’s performance.
